About this tour

A three-day route west from Tbilisi, ideal as an add-on to a Tbilisi/Kakheti programme. The first day picks up Stalin's hometown of Gori and the rock-cut city of Uplistsikhe en route to Kutaisi, Georgia's second city. Day two focuses on the Bagrati Cathedral, the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery (with its mosaics and academy), and the Sataplia and Prometheus cave systems. Day three reaches the dramatic Martvili Canyon for a short boat ride before the return drive.

Day-by-day itinerary

    Tbilisi → Gori → Uplistsikhe → Kutaisi

    Drive west to Gori for the Stalin Museum (about 1 hour). Continue to the rock-hewn city of Uplistsikhe with full guiding. Late lunch in Gori or on the road, then drive to Kutaisi for check-in.

    Bagrati, Gelati and the caves

    Morning visit to Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery (UNESCO) — Georgia's 12th-century academy with restored mosaics. Afternoon at Sataplia (dinosaur footprints, viewpoint, small caves) and Prometheus Cave (1.6 km guided walk through illuminated halls).

    Martvili Canyon & return to Tbilisi

    Drive to Martvili Canyon for a 30-minute rubber boat ride between the limestone walls. Picnic lunch at the canyon, then drive back to Tbilisi (about 4 hours).
