Svaneti is the most remote and most photographed corner of Georgia: defensive towers, glaciated 5,000 m peaks, and a culture that preserved its language and architecture through centuries of isolation. This five-day programme reaches Mestia by road via Kutaisi, then continues by 4×4 to Ushguli, the UNESCO-listed village complex at 2,200 m. Two days are built around hikes — Hatsvali ridge above Mestia and the Chazhashi tower trail in Ushguli — at a moderate-to-challenging pace. Comfortable family guesthouses in Mestia.

    Tbilisi → Mestia (via Kutaisi)

    Long but scenic drive west across Georgia. Lunch stop in Kutaisi. Continue along the Enguri reservoir into Svaneti, arriving in Mestia in the early evening. Welcome dinner at the guesthouse.

    Mestia walking day & Hatsvali ridge

    Morning visit to the Svaneti museum and Mikheil Khergiani house-museum. Afternoon cable car to Hatsvali (2,347 m) and ridge walk with panoramic views of Ushba and Tetnuldi. Total walking ≈ 3 hours, easy-to-moderate.

    Mestia → Ushguli & return

    4×4 transfer to Ushguli (about 2.5 hours each way over a rough road). Walking tour of Chazhashi, visit Lamaria church and lunch at a local family. Optional 1-hour walk toward Shkhara glacier viewpoint.

    Koruldi Lakes hike (optional) or rest day

    For active travelers: full-day hike to the Koruldi Lakes above Mestia (1,000 m elevation gain, 6–7 hours). For others: free day to walk the village towers and visit local cafés.

    Mestia → Tbilisi

    Drive back to Tbilisi via Kutaisi (or domestic flight option, weather permitting). Hotel drop-off or airport transfer.
